Principal’s Message
Dear Parents
Welcome to Term 3 – our favourite term of the year!! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and that the children are refreshed ready for a big term of learning (and a lot of fun along the way!).
Towards the end of the last term, our teachers planned for this term’s new Unit of Inquiry (UoI). We have a lot of exciting learning engagements planned and I know the children are going to have the opportunity to develop many new skills along with having fun and enjoying their new unit. Please visit our class blogs on the Hillside Learning Hub for your child’s latest class news, which will include information about your child’s Unit of Inquiry. Please encourage your child to share and talk about what they have been doing and learning by going through the class blogs and ePortfolios together. One of the purposes of our class blogs is to provide parents with information about the learning undertaken at Hillside so that it can then be discussed at home to strengthen the home-school connection.
Thank you for all the parent participation and volunteers last term, we are very fortunate to have so many parents assisting us to enhance teaching and learning opportunities and also making it even safer for the children by providing us with an extra hand, as well as keeping an extra eye.
A warm reminder to sign-up before the end of the year (especially K2s!), but please be conscious to limit or spread out your number of sign-ups, especially this last term, to allow all parents an opportunity on the rosters before the summer break.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Kind Regards
Audrey
Acting Head of School
Zero Waste Hillside
At Hillside, we are taking steps in becoming an ‘eco-friendly school’ by minimising the impact of our human footprint on our planet. As such, we are working on becoming a plastic-free school. We do not want any single-use plastic items at Hillside, please! Any single-use plastic items that come to school with your child will be sent home.
We have agreed to recycle our paper and cardboard and minimise lamination regularly. We will opt for more environmentally friendly teaching materials and resources to be used in our classrooms, and increase the use of natural materials and other biodegradable materials.
Children at Hillside will be taught about the value of food and water – and teachers will be expected to model this through the learning engagements that are presented to the children, for example when engaged in learning activities, playing games, class parties etc. All resource must be respected and not wasted at any time.
ESF The Journey: An Exploration of Art 2019 Exhibit
There will be an art exhibition at K11, a well-known, art mall in T.S.T. Hong Kong, showcasing numbers of ESF students’ artwork around the city: ‘’The Journey: An exploration of Art’’. This is a 10-day art exhibition, and the artworks cover a wide range of media.
This is the first time we will have organised an exhibition showcasing the effort and many artistic talents of our students across the ESF Schools, from kindergarten through secondary school, PIS and special school. The art exhibition is not just a journey through the years of our schools, it represents the way in which our students grow and develop as young adults.
All ESF schools were invited to submit student artwork for selection. The venue managers and organisers (both K11 and ESFC event team) reviewed each submission before it came to the final stage of the art exhibition. Hillside has been fortunate enough to have some of our children’s artwork selected for display at the exhibit.
The information of the exhibition are as below:
Theme: The Journey: An Exploration of Art
Exhibition date: 24 May – 2 June 2019
Exhibition hall: chi K11 art space, B2/F, K11, 18 Hanoi Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
Time: 12 pm – 10 pm
Admission: FREE!

Hillside K2 Celebration of Learning (Graduation) – SAVE THE DATE!!!
One of the highlights of Term 3 is always our K2 Graduation Ceremony. With ESF moving toward a “Through-Train Education System”, we would like to see this move from K2 to Y1 as part of the transition process. As such, our end of year event will be a Celebration of Learning to commemorate the children’s time at Hillside. We will showcase some of the children’s work and learning through different forms of presentation. Stay tuned as well for a special outing for our K2 children as a special last memory with their Hillside friends and teachers.
We are keen for the events to take place on 11-13 June 2019, pending on confirmation of our venue. Further details regarding this event will follow soon!
