Principal’s Message
Dear Parents
I can’t believe The two last weeks of the school year is just around the corner! Where has the time gone?
This has been an exciting week celebrating the achievements of our K2 children. Despite the unstable weather and disruptions around the city, each class hosted their own ‘Celebration of Learning’ with a class ceremony and a class party at Maggie and Rose. Every child was acknowledged and recognized for their accomplishments. The children enjoyed being in the spotlight, and I am sure you would agree that the intimate ceremony was an excellent way to acknowledge and celebrate the children’s two years at Hillside. Thank you to all the parents for joining this special event. Not only does it mean a lot to the children, but also our teachers. And now, it is very hard for us to believe that two years have gone by! Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s early years’ learning and care. It has been such a pleasure and privilege.
Thank you to both parents and teachers for making the K2 outing at Maggie and Rose Repulse Bay possible. The weather delivered rain, as forecasted, but it did not lessen the K2 children’s excitement and enjoyment of their fun send-off. The well-designed creative spaces at Maggie and Rose offered a different learning and discovery experience for the Hillside graduates, as they coloured the “wall” at the Art booth, took a breather at the Library, and indulged in active play at the indoor play area (which was, of course, the most popular).
All in all it was a memorable experience for both the children and their teachers, a warm keepsake from their Hillside family.
For all the K2 families moving onto Y1 and any K1 families leaving Hillside at the end of this academic year, please do take the time to revisit and download your child’s ePortfolio. Please spend some time together with your child to look through all the work they have done over the year and let them tell you all about it. K1 Science Fair
In line with learning all about ‘change’ and how people can cause change in materials (causation), K1 classes are looking forward to next week when their four-day Science Fair unfolds! Thank you to all parents who have quickly filled up the roster. Our school times will remain as usual during the Science Fair week. Each day per class, we will have three parents for the first 45 minutes and then another three parents for the second 45 minutes. Parents are asked to refrain from making calls or using your phones while on “duty”, to facilitate greater engagement and science discoveries with your child.

K2 Helpers and K1 Visitors
The K2 Helper Programme which started after the Easter break had taken off smoothly and has been providing a big-brother/ big-sister experience to our K2 children.
Four K2 children are invited to join the K1 Open-Play during each session to help the K1s. These K2 children were very happy to re-visit their K1 classrooms, and have been helping in their own little ways! They have been a positive role model for their younger peers by lending a hand with putting on aprons, carrying artwork to the drying racks, sweeping sand off the floor, among others!
Vice versa, during each Open-Play, a small group of K1 children joins a K1 Educational Assistant to participate in a K2 learning engagement.
These initiatives are a gentle nudge up to both K1 and K2 children, at the same time equipping them with practical skills and adjusting their expectations for the new school year around the corner!
Water Fun Day (Wednesday 26 June)
As the school year is coming to an end, and with the weather getting hotter each day, we have planned a Water Fun Day for the children to have some summer fun together. The water activities at our outdoor area will let the children have a dip n’ splash. There will also be some indoor activities for those who prefer to stay dry.
Please have your child wear their swimmers, put on sunscreen in advance, and wear trainers on this day. Please also pack a towel, a change of clothes and shoes on this exciting day. All must be clearly labelled and packed in a waterproof bag. Get ready for a day filled with fun and frolic!
